Marian has a reputation for excellence in the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) area. Our highly regarded offerings include dance, drama and music groups and are showcased in many ways including musicals, competitions, and College performances.
Our cutting edge spaces ensure that the resources provided to our students support high quality CAPA learning experiences. We also exhibit a high standard of Visual Arts pieces where students are provided with the opportunities to explore a variety of mediums.
CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS OPPORTUNITIES
Students interested in developing their skills and talents in the creative and performing arts arena can choose to be involved in a number of programs and extracurriculars at Marian Catholic College, including:
Band Ensembles
Electrify - catering for students who want to learn or develop their skills playing in an ensemble.
Intensify - catering for more experienced performers. The band learns a challenging repertoire and has many performance opportunities.
Chamber Ensemble - a small group of students who play string or woodwind instruments. It caters for beginner and more advanced instrumentalists.
Rock Bands - comprised of students from Years 7-12 who perform a variety of popular music at college and diocesan events, including Battle of the Bands.
Drum Squad - a percussion based ensemble who have the opportunity to compose their own repertoire and perform at college events.
Dance Troupes
An opportunity for experienced dance students to extend and develop their talents with our accomplished dance teacher. The Dance Troupes are offered as a variety of different groups, focusing on the areas of Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz and Hip Hop. Our groups are divided into Junior and Senior, with all age troupes for Hip Hop and Contemporary.
In addition to college performance opportunities, the troupes compete in a selection of eisteddfods and competitions throughout the year, including the PDSSSC Dance competitions against other Catholic schools in our diocese. We have experienced outstanding success in this area over the years.
Drama Ensemble
The drama ensemble is comprised of a group of students in Years 7 – 12 who are given the opportunity to enhance and develop their skills in a variety of performance techniques which are then showcased at college events.
Vocal Ensembles
MCCK Amplify - focusing on small groups of singers of all ages. The students are provided with a variety of vocal challenges that they engage in during the year to improve their performance skills. Amplify is for everyone - no audition is necessary.
Pure Harmony - an invitation only choir for experienced singers. Pure Harmony members perform challenging pieces in four part harmony.
College Musical
The college musical is produced every two years and provides an opportunity for all Creative Arts students to present their talents to the community. The college has a proud history of putting on established, polished productions.

Mass and Liturgical Ensemble
This is a combination of singers and instrumentalists who perform at college masses and liturgies during the year.
CREATIVE ARTS FESTIVAL
Marian Catholic College Creative Arts Festival (MCCAF) is a yearly event combining all performing arts disciplines in a night of high energy and entertainment. It showcases the incredible talents of our Marian students and staff.
CREATE!
The Marian CREATE! performance evening is an annual event showcasing the creativity of our students Years 7-12 using a variety of materials and expressive forms in Visual Arts, Design & Technology, Agriculture and Industrial Technology (Timber). Many of the displays include HSC major works which often achieve exceptional results.
The night also showcases our talented musicians, vocal ensembles and dance troupes in a performance not to be missed! In addition, attendees are able to enjoy canapés prepared and served by the senior Hospitality and Food Technology classes.
CREATE!
HSC DANCE, DRAMA AND MUSIC EVENINGS
Held in July and August, these evenings provide an opportunity for Year 12 students to display their HSC works for their families and the community before their exams.

PERIPATETIC MUSIC LESSONS
This private tuition program caters for students wishing to improve their skills on a particular instrument. Lessons occur during class time for half an hour once a week on a rotating schedule. Fees are paid to the instrumental tutor who will invoice families at the commencement of each term.

WINTERFEST FESTIVAL
Marian’s Winterfest event showcases the various areas of school life at Marian. This community event includes entertainment from our Creative and Performing Arts students with busking, rock bands, a concert featuring our talented musicians, singers, and dancers, plus drama acts and a Visual Arts Display. Held in Term 2 each year, it’s a great family night of entertainment and fun!
